Penalties for customers rather than prostitutes. France tightens law – Czech Television

Yesterday, the French parliament passed a law according to which, the penalties for the use of sexual services hit the customer, not the prostitutes themselves. Furthermore, the “clients” are caught using this type of service will have to take part in special classes about the negative consequences of prostitution.

The change in French law means that it will be one of the countries most severely proceeding to punish this type of offense. So far only a few countries decided to criminalizing the use of sexual services – including Sweden and Iceland.

The Parliament passed a law, after over a 2.5-year battle. Supporters of the new law explain that it protects women against sexual exploitation and opponents of changes to emphasize that in this way prostitution go underground, where no one would control it.

Under the new law a person caught for the first time on the use of sexual services will be fined 1,500 euros (about 6.5 thousand. PLN), a person caught in this once again have to pay 3750 euros (about 16 thousand).

Prostitution is legal in France but it is illegal to reap the profits.
