Congress of Polish Judges convened by resolution of the National Council of the Judiciary of 26 July 2016..

A well-functioning justice system and independent of the executive and legislative branches the judiciary is the foundation for the protection of fundamental rights and freedoms of citizens, the basis of the rule of law, and guarantee the stability of the Polish economy.

In an environment reported to the judge’s demands are conducting a broad debate on the current situation of the judiciary in Poland and threats independence of courts and judges. The National Judicial Council shares the views of the need to conduct such a debate and in cooperation with the Association of Polish Judges for Justice, Judges Association Themis Judges Association of Family in Poland and the Judges Association of Family Pro Familia decides to convene for 3 September 2016. According to the record, the main themes of the Congress will be:

– the method of appointment of judges and evaluation of the refusal to appoint the President of the Republic candidates as judges,
– supervision of the Ministry of Justice over the courts in the light of the provisions of the new law – Law
Prosecutor’s Office
– the independence of the courts and the independence of judges in the light of the planned changes in legal regulations concerning the common courts, administrative and Supreme Court.
– assessment of the situation related to the activities of the legislature and the executive to the Constitutional Court, in the consequences of non-publication of judgments of the Court,
– a new law on the National Council of the Judiciary.
