Col. Piotr Gąstał was dismissed from the position of Head of GROM by the Minister of National Defence – Antoni Macierewicz.
The reason for the resignation of Colonel is not yet known but may be related to the tragic accident in which death suffered one of the soldiers of this unit of Special Forces. Officer fighting naval units died during the demonstration exercise in the presence of President Andrew Duda and the King of Jordan. The investigation is currently Department of the Military Prosecutor’s Office in Gdynia.
Col. Piotr Gąstał was the commander of GROM since 2011 and one of the first soldiers admitted to the unit. In 1991, it adopted the creator of the unit, gen. Slawomir Petelicki.
GROM (Response Unit Operating and maneuvering) was established July 13, 1990 year. Organized by the American and British models from the beginning it consisted exclusively of professionals and was designed for special operations, including counterterrorism, exploration, reconnaissance, hostage.
