Possible scenarios of change and development of the television market in Poland – Business portal wnp.pl

According to the European Table of Frequency Allocations 174-862 MHz range was previously handled in the following manner: 174-230 MHz frequency range were the third TV, the band 230-470 MHz was special and it was used by the TV , while the 470-862 MHz frequency were IV and V range of TV. In the latter distinguish ranges 694-790 MHz band called 700 MHz and 790-862 MHz band 800 MHz determined.

Analog TV occupied ranges III, IV and V TV and that this area was liberated in the process of digital switching. For the purposes of this study adopted the whole area called digital dividend. In some other studies (eg. UKE) the dividend is called only a portion of those resources, those that remain free after playing in digital form the existing analogue transmission before switching. Of course, the possibility of such a dividend understood due to the fact that digital television makes better use of the frequency spectrum than analog.

Part of the digital dividend has been used to create three television multiplexes, measured as MUX1, MUX2 and MUX3, and additionally encoded DVB-T multiplex in the development of the so-called. Mobile TV, but its significance is marginal so far and probably will remain so. Part of the 800 MHz band reserved for the development of high speed internet access in LTE. It is to be used for the development of digital television and digital radio tv III range.

The remainder of the dividend – 700 MHz band – waiting for the appropriate decisions about its use for the development of the television market and / or telecommunications. This part is called the second dividend. Usage second dividend is crucial for the development of the media market in Poland and will decide on the development and structure of terrestrial entire media market. The discussion of this problem is presented in this paper.

Made digital switch opens up new possibilities for the development of the entire television sector in Poland, including the possibility of changes in the structure of the TV market, which has been in Poland with a clear tilt towards pay-TV (satellite and cable), which was mainly delaying the process of switching digital terrestrial television in relation to the technical and the earlier plan.
