More sport for free on TV. The new list of sporting events – Media2.pl

November 21, the European Commission adopted a decision on the Polish list of important events. The decision will shortly be published in the Official Journal of the European Union. Knowing the positive opinion of the Contact Committee, at its meeting on November 17 National Broadcasting Council adopted a regulation on the list of important events. The Regulation will come into force after the expiration of twelve months from the date of the announcement in the Official Gazette of the Republic of Polish.

After the entry into force of the provisions television broadcasts of the events listed in the Act on TV, the NBC and Regulation, and hence consumer rights, will be covered legal protection in all countries of the European Union. Under the provisions of the Broadcasting live television coverage of major events can be attributed, in principle, only national program available in its entirety at no charge.

It should be remembered that the list of important events in accordance with Article . Paragraph 20b. 2 of the Law on Broadcasting are currently
• Summer and Winter Olympic Games;

 • semi-finals and finals of the World Cup and European football, as well as all other matches in these events with the Polish national team, including qualifying matches;

 • other matches involving the Polish national football team as part of the official competition • Polish matches involving clubs in the League Cup and UEFA Cup

The Regulation includes the following events:
• matches involving the Polish national team in the world and European championships in volleyball for women and men, including qualifying matches;

 • World League competition in men’s volleyball played in Poland;

 • semi-finals and finals of the World Cup and European handball team, as well as any other matches in these events with the Polish national team, including qualifying matches;

 • World Cup Ski Championships;

 • World Cup ski jumping;

 • World Cup cross-country skiing women;

 • World Championships in Athletics

Each of the events listed in the list meets, in accordance with the requirements of EU law, at least two of the following eligibility criteria:

– the event or its result it has a special resonance in the audience of a Member State, beyond the influence that produces on those who usually follow the course of the transmissions from the field of sport or course other type of event;

 - The event has a special, generally recognized cultural importance for the population of the Member State concerned, in particular as a catalyst for the cultural identity;

 - The event includes the participation of the national team in the sport in a big international tournament;

 - Report from the event in question has traditionally been broadcast on television and attracted large television audiences in a Member State.

In its decision, the Commission also stressed that developed by the National Broadcasting Regulation and the provisions of the Act relating to the transmission of important events are should comply with the European Union competition rules. Objective criteria for broadcasters who can apply for the acquisition of the rights to broadcast the events from the list allow them to free competition in the market.
