The President signed amendments to the media law – Television Republic

President Andrzej Duda signed an amendment to the Law on public media – said at a press conference the head of the President’s Office Sadurska. What’s more, the president made his signature under the laws of sześciolatkach and the civil service.

The amendment was adopted by parliament on December 30. The day after the Senate approved it. Today, the caption under the novella by President Andrzej Duda. The Act does not provide application period, which means that it will enter into force after publication in the Official Gazette.

– I would like to point out that the president of concern relates to the to the public media were characterized by credibility, reliability and objectivity – said the head of the presidential office. She said, therefore, that the president is concerned that the media fulfill their role, signed the amendment, giving Parliament the opportunity to prepare standards that ensure its implementation.

The adopted law envisages that the new management and supervisory boards of public media shall appoint and dismiss “the minister responsible for the Treasury”. ATV branches of Polish Television will instead direct the directors elected by its Board of Directors. Boards of directors will consist of three members.

The Act also envisages shortening the term of office of the current management board of TVP and Polish Radio, whose mandate will expire on the date of entry into force of the amendment. The new authorities of these media will select the supervisory boards at the request of the Ministry of Culture and National Heritage, and after consultation with NBC.

In addition, the boards of TVP and Polish Radio in transition – from the entry into force of the Act to appoint the new government companies – they can not “perform acts which exceed the scope of ordinary management or activities of the labor law, which would result in new commitments for the company.”
