TV – its existence in the life of the modern civilized man is so obvious that hardly anyone today imagine a house (exceptions) without device to receive the message. The statistics show that the most common and best-selling equipment, household appliances in Poland is just TV . Despite the sophistication of these devices, a television in the average home is used – which is of course not surprising – primarily watching TV.
Research has also shown that the medium is the main source of information and knowledge about the world and reality. Proportions of course change slowly, because traditional television displaces the Internet, which is used primarily young generation and those to whom knowledge of the world of television is not enough.
TV , like everything else, What we surround ourselves every day, has a very large impact on our thinking, and even the well-being and unconscious decisions we make in our lives.
Research on the effects of television on the brain and wellbeing
Already in 1969, when TV crawling (in Poland, the first TV program broadcast in 1952, and in the 60s a television in the house was a rarity and luxury), an American scientist, Herbert Krugman has conducted a series of experiments in the field the impact of television on brain waves .
Krugman discovered that already watching television for 1 minute, to switch our brain waves from the cycle frequency beta (active and logical thinking) on the frequency of alpha waves (state of rest and relaxation). The human alpha state is subject to the passive information acquisition and critical thinking is turned off. In other words, we see something, but we wonder if this is true or just a representation of reality used for any purpose, chosen by the creator or owner. Now imagine children being heavily influenced by television, which due to their age and ignorance the more are subjected to the impact, which triggers in them a series of unconscious behaviors and affect growth.

On the basis of these studies were created, among other things, the foundations of marketing and advertising using the media. An excellent proof of this today are changing the proportions of content and advertising, and even weave advertising content in the program (ie. Product placement), which means that they can not distinguish one from the other. In the US recently widely discussed was the shortening of famous movies in TV (by acceleration / cutting slices of scenes in which there was no dialogue) in order to “save” a few minutes in the network schedule in order to be used for advertising.
At the time of these experiments Krugman was established, inter alia, saying “brainwashing” , which simply means brainwashing, and which perfectly explains the functioning of the media.
Another aspect TV are emotional content, most of which have a negative context (war, murder, accidents, epidemics, disasters etc.) and keep a man in constant fear, threat, which further frees us additional stress, bouncing on our health, both mental and physical.
Of course, the internet is technologically similar. The only difference is that the network has distributed sources of information, and the medium itself does not have one owner and creator information can be anyone, creating your own website, blog or video that you can post and share it with others. Assessment of the credibility of this deal are already the users themselves who are happy to share what they consider valuable and close to the truth. The Internet also offers unlimited opportunities for discussion and exchange of views, which in today’s world is one of the best ways to investigate and verify the truth.
It is important that in the complex world of information to keep common sense, moderation and use different sources. And remember – we choose the information that really have some significance for our lives.
