The fact that the public media, the de facto public were not, you do not have to convince anyone. Standards on TV has long been discontinued covered with thick dust on a shelf. The last months have given to many a clear example.
The democratic elections are the best survey of preferences of Poles. Indirectly you can learn from them what they think about the political class and what values are important to them. The two election campaigns in 2015 showed, however, that the Poles think of something else than the media that still belong to them.
It turns out that the citizens have chosen a completely different president and a different diet than suggested are available. al. news and current affairs programs on TV. Both presidential and parliamentary elections have proved to be contrary to the transfer, which seeped out of the public media. The Poles showed this environment a red card and have expressed their dissatisfaction with their mission. Changes in demand not only politicians, but also ordinary Poles at the polls.
The fact that the public media are taken over by the victorious political camp Poles should be used, because this phenomenon is repeated periodically for more than 20 years. However, the takeover of the media by the PO took place evolutionarily gradually be spread over a period of time. The platform does not have to hurry because she had guaranteed cover by TVN, Polsat, “Gazeta Wyborcza” and most commercial radio stations. Within a few years, they take all major media and journalists to create a front of opposition to the parliamentary opposition.
I remember how in 2009 were released enjoying an authority on the environment Krzysztof Skowronski of the Polish Radio. If not created Committees for the Defence of Democracy, and the “Gazeta Wyborcza” published a series of libels about it. Skowronski was released a few months later, the journalists chose him as chairman of the Association of Polish Journalists.
However, the government platforms went further than just taking over public media. Thorn in the side of power has become the conservative daily “Rzeczpospolita” and triumphant on the Polish market weekly “I Sculpture”. I recall that PO politicians have coped well with this “problem.” First, effectively expelled from the Polish market, the British Mecom Group, later to “give” “Rzeczpospolita” in the hands of a friendly businessman Gregory Hajdarowicz.
The plan great purges in “Rzeczpospolita” was not passed in the parliament. This was correlated action Military Prosecutor’s Office and the nocturnal encounter Minister Pawel Gras with Hajdarowicz the Dumpster next to the Sejm. The result of this meeting was thrown out and quit my job a few dozen inconvenient journalists and columnists. For several years there has been a total pacify the media that the government sought to PO watch their hands and present other than the left-liberal worldview. 2015 showed that Poles turned away from the biggest media and simply stopped believing them.
Now we are witnessing the next takeover of public media. PiS government does not hide it, do not lead twisting behind the scenes Gierek, does provocation that would discredit presidents and directors of public media. Takes over the media limelight and exposed visor. This can many do not like it, but you can give them some points for transparency actions. I’m not saying that such behavior of politicians is something standard in a democratic state, but watching the entire scene media in Poland, a change in TVP and Polish Radio will make the flow of information will become more pluralistic.
I have no illusions that the message TVP and Polish Radio will change. We will see the deflection in the other direction … I just hope it will be a deviation, and no inflection, because it would only discourage consumers and viewers. In the realm of history and culture, I wish more production that will build our national and religious identity.
I think these so-called half year of operation. “Small media law” would be a good time to reflect on how to further public media are to function in terms of both software and economically. I hope that the true law and the repair of public media will still have time. My dream would be to develop such standards in order to under their influence also they changed the commercial stations.
