“Light the Light of Freedom” to the victims of martial law – Television Republic

The Institute of National Remembrance encourages you to join the action “Light the Light of Freedom” in the 34th anniversary of the imposition of martial law. The honorary patron of the initiative is president Andrzej Duda.

The campaign, which aims to commemorate the victims of those tragic events, can take part each, igniting December 13 at 19.30 candle in a window or virtually on the web .ipn.gov.pl. To take part in it join the next government departments and state institutions, as well as the Polish Episcopate.

The social campaign IPN “Light the Light of Freedom” refers to the gesture of solidarity, which the Poles living under martial law on Christmas Eve 1981 years performed crowds of locals then the free world. As a sign of unity with compatriots candle in the window of the Apostolic Palace in the Vatican lit Pope John Paul II.

To bring in boxes of candles also urged US President Ronald Reagan, who in the Christmas address to the nation said the Poles were betrayed by own government. Those who govern them, and their totalitarian allies fear the freedom which the Poles so much loved. (…) Let the flame million candles in American homes will be testimony that the light of liberty can not be put out.
