Every year on July 4 is celebrated in Oxford Alice Day – to commemorate the day on which Lewis Carroll told the story of three sisters of a young girl in Wonderland.

The British documentary “The Secret World of Lewis Carroll” was the 150th anniversary of the publication of this masterpiece of children’s literature, which reportedly most frequently cited book immediately after the Bible and Shakespeare. “Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland” was published in 1865. It was a revolutionary book, not as moralistic as the contemporary literature for children.

Lewis Carroll’s real name was Charles Dodgson He was the Reverend and taught mathematics at the University of Oxford. He was 24 years old when he met 4-year-old Alice Liddell. Her father was dean of Christ Church and superior Dodgson. Mr Liddell had three daughters, all of which pay special attention beautiful and confident Alice.

Dodgson became friends with girls. He taught them magic tricks, reading fairy tale. They went on trips together. When we were growing up – Alice when she was 10 years – he took them on trips. One of these expeditions became the most famous cruise boat in the history of literature. In June 1863, Lewis Carroll was expelled from Deanery, but we do not know for what, because a cousin who inherited his memoirs, had cut the pages where you would look for explanations. His relationship with his family only remaining official. Alice’s mother burned all the letters they received from Dodgson’s daughter, even though they were reportedly works of art. However, there is some evidence that Carroll acted inappropriately. Some say that he had pedophile tendencies, others that guided him pure friendship.

The fact is, however, that Alice Carroll had asked for a lock of hair, and that he had done to her and her sisters a lot of pictures. In the French museum is a picture of a naked teens – for which no parent would not have agreed – attributed to Lewis Carroll. Today’s experts are inclined to conclude that he actually accomplish them.

The film contains interviews with experts, authors of a biography of the writer and the outstanding figures of culture.
