Poland and the Netherlands propose the creation of the European Union Russian-language TV channel to better counter Russian propaganda in the media – he reported in Brussels Polish Foreign Minister Grzegorz Schetyna.
This initiative will be presented at a meeting of foreign ministers of EU countries. Schetyna said that 10 September in Warsaw will host a conference on the financing of the project. – We treat this as a Dutch-Polish initiative, but we want other countries to be able to join – said Schetyna reporters.

He explained that the aim of the project is to ensure that free speech and free information reached the Eastern Europe, to Russia and Russian-speaking minority in Eastern Europe. – It’s about creating a new project, something like that, what I can guarantee that you will not use the language of propaganda and aggression, but a real, reliable information – added the head of the Foreign Ministry.
In his opinion, the future Russian-speaking television could produce the content, that would be used by the existing stations, news channels and Internet publishing in Russian.

Fund to support other media?
According to the Minister, the project could start next year. Feasibility study on the counter Russian propaganda in the media has already prepared a European Endowment for Democracy. It was commissioned by the Dutch government. The study was presented at the May summit of the Eastern Partnership in Riga.
One idea is to create an information agency for the area of the Russian language. Experts also suggest eg. To create a “content factory” which would deal with media production, as well as the fund, which was supported by various projects and initiatives, such as eg. In Brussels, the foreign ministers of EU countries have to discuss and accept the agreement concluded in Vienna on Iran’s nuclear program, as well as discuss the situation in Tunisia and the EU help for this country, including in the fight against terrorism. – We are thinking about it and talking about how to help Tunisia, because this is a country that shows that in the Arab world can be democratic, free market and parliamentary transformation. This is a country which should be supported – said Schetyna.
The theme of the meeting will also be the situation in the Middle East and a solution to the Israeli-Palestinian conflict.
