I still do not know which station will show the matches of Poles in EuroBasket. Unofficially it is said that Public TV is the closest vesting for meetings.
An interesting fact is that in TVP Sport is already covered transmission of Poles match with Bosnia and Herzegovina (September 5, the beginning 14:55). We decided to check whether Public TV actually acquired the rights to show matches of the championship of Europe, which already three weeks begin in four different countries. In the Polish Basketball Association this information is not confirmed as yet.
– I can hardly say anything on the transmission of the European Championship. Surely cheer and lobbying for this to the Polish television could show this tournament. We are not the owner of the rights to the EuroBasket. Negotiations taking place directly on the line FIBA-TV. I can hardly say anything, at what stage are now. I know that the financial talks are advanced, but the details do not know – tells us Jacek Jakubowski, general secretary of the Polish Basketball Association.
The game apparently includes even the other candidates. – From what I know, conversations are conducted with three entities. At stake is Public TV and two other candidates. At least that’s the case relates FIBA – adds Jakubowski.
The Polish Basketball Association is not taking part in the talks. What’s more – will not earn or “buck” in this tournament due to the rights to broadcast. – I think it’s not a good model, because we, as a federation, we do not have any revenues from television rights despite the fact that Poland team playing at the FIBA EuroBasket, however, achieved in this respect revenues. This is a completely different model than it is in the Euroleague. There is every club that plays in the competition, participates in these influences. Here, this model FIBA, is outdated. We do not earn or “buck” in this tournament – says Secretary General PZKosz.
Representatives of the Polish federation greatly depends on the fact that the tournament was broadcast in Poland. They demand that also sponsors national team. In the case of disagreement on the line FIBA-TV, PZKosz will contribute towards the cost? – No, at the moment we are not planning such activities to participate at the EuroBasket transmission charges. There is no topic, but I admit that much we depend on the realization of meetings, because we have signed contracts with sponsors who require it to make this tournament was shown in Poland – he said.
– I think that this transaction might take, but the issue is money. Negotiations are under way on this issue. I am optimistic that we will certainly attain all the paperwork. The open question is what the channel will be shown matches – admits Jakubowski.
Keep in mind that June’s European championship women in Poland were broadcast via Youtube.com channels. Is such a scenario is now taken into account? – There is no requirement for implementation of the matches in Poland. The best example is the Women’s European Championships. FIBA did not sell the rights to the tournament feminine and it was only on Youtube.com channel. I think that for such an extreme situation in the case of the male team not happen.
As is the case with meetings of Euroleague? – Euroleague this requirement also does not have, but if there will be no television showed the match, the representatives of these competitions are sending our own team, which performs production. For example – Polish team plays with Olympiacos, then the signal is produced and sent to Greece. The costs charged to the club with Polish – says Jakubowski.
