Only at the Olympics in London 2012 athletes suspected won as many as 10 discs. In some competitions they occupied all the places on the podium. Most of suspicion is towards athletes from Russia and Kenya.
The results contrary to the norm, however, has not yet conclusive evidence of doping but still leaking information is a powerful blow to the International Federation of Light Athletics just before the World Championships in Beijing.
– This is very serious allegations and we will have to check them out. Our committee will do it as soon as possible. I was surprised by the number given in the leak of the International Federation of Athletics. I am convinced that the IAAF will want to read it and reach his sources – commented Craig Reedie, president of the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA).
– Suspicions have been formulated on the basis of blood samples. I am not a specialist in blood tests, but the charges may be even more serious. I emphasize, however, that athletes are innocent until those suspicions are confirmed – he added.
- We will very closely with the World Anti-Doping Agency. We will not accept any infringement. Doping is a very serious problem in the twenty-first century, but everyone should know that cheaters have no place neither in athletics or in other Olympic sport – said Sergey Bubka, the legendary pole vaulter, now president of IAAF.
