German television show “City 44″ – Polish Radio

In many announcements that appeared over the weekend in the German media, it was written that the Warsaw Uprising was still unhealed wound in Polish historical consciousness. Daily “Hamburger Abendblatt” he wrote about one of the most horrific events in the history of Polish-German relations. The newspaper called the emergence of a great trauma in Polish history.


 
 


Issue “City 44″ is to be an indirect response to the German TV series “Our mothers, our fathers,” in which Army soldiers are presented as a gang of anti-Semites. Both films show the experience of the war from the perspective of a group of young people – Germans and Poles. Following the issue of the “City 44″ ZDF will show a documentary about the Warsaw Uprising.


 
 

The Warsaw Uprising was the largest underground military action in Nazi-occupied Europe. August 1, 1944 r. To fight in the capital joined approx. 40-50 thousand. insurgents. The planned several days lasted for more than two months. During the fighting in Warsaw were killed approx. 18 thousand. insurgents and 25 thousand. were wounded. Civilian casualties were huge and amounted to approx. 180 thousand. killed. The surviving residents of Warsaw, approx. 500 thous., Were expelled from the city, which after the uprising was almost completely burnt and destroyed.


 

On Saturday we celebrated the 71st anniversary of the Warsaw Uprising, accompanied by an official celebrations and many private initiatives.
