TV shows live migration of reindeer – Republic

123RF

Norwegian television NRK specializing in programs such as “slow TV” (“TV unhurried” ) covenant to the next: a real-time relationship with the migration of reindeer. Wandering animals from mountainous areas to the coast NRK wants to broadcast for a week.

For several weeks, reindeer wander from mountainous areas to pasture on the coast. – Everything is very slow and takes you back to nature – says producer Thomas Hellum. He reminds us that reindeer migration is a “unique and important” aspect of the life of the Sami, the indigenous people of Norway and breeders of these animals.

However, the relationship will not be an easy task because the animal migration takes place each year at different times depending on the weather. In addition, NRK must verify that the satellite signal will be strong enough to allow transmission from the far north of the country to other areas.

A trial scheduled to air in spring 2016 and if the idea proves feasible, live broadcast will take place in 2017 years. It will last only a week, because – as he admitted Hellum – a longer relationship “would be too slow, even for unhurried TV”. The manufacturer determines the planned program as “hardcore slow TV”.

Among the NRK programs in recent years was, among others, The journey by train from Bergen to Oslo, during which the train was passing through 182 tunnels. In 2013, a program dedicated to the wood came a few hours kominkowemu transmission of burning logs in the fireplace. Another program NRK – “12 hours non-stop shooting knitting” was a relationship with attempts to break the record in knitting a sweater. And last year, for 60 hours NRK broadcast appearances in various churches Norway’s total of 200 choirs performing psalms.
