Navalny: West should include sanctions oligarchs and their families – Television Republic

The West should impose visa sanctions and financial Russian oligarchs such as Roman Abramovich, owner of Chelsea, as well as their family members – said the opposition leader Alexei Navalny in an interview published in the “Financial Times”.

– Instead of adding to the “black list” of Russian fighters fighting in eastern Ukraine, the West should draw on the letters of the family Kremlin officials, such as Vladislav Surkov or Vyacheslav Volodin. Both are co-President Vladimir Putin. It is their children fly to Paris for the weekend, not commanders who fight in Donbas – pointed Navalny.

Hit the oligarchs

If the richest people in Russia, such as if another oligarch Abramovich Alisher Usmanov “will not be able to go to his residence in London and Switzerland, it will be important” – argues Navalny in an interview with “FT”. He appealed to the West: “you have to hit the propaganda war, those who finance the war, a real war party.”

Navalny also pointed people like Oleg Dobrodiejew, head of the state-owned holding company WGTRK television, whether known TV presenter Vladimir Solovyov. The latter “is known that a week in their show denigrate the West, and then on Friday evening departs to his own residence on Lake Como (in the Italian Alps)” – writes “FT”. Navalny said that Putin has consistently appoint to positions in the economy of young people from families of people from his inner circle. – Several years ago, we thought that it was just nepotism, but now we realize that this is a long-term planning – it builds dynastic power – Navalny said. He expressed the belief that Putin is determined to rule for life.

or disgruntled opposition group

– Just another combination of Western sanctions imposed in all clans that help control the wealth of Russia’s Putin may change the situation – rated oppositionist. The interview was conducted after the assassination of Boris Nemtsov. As noted by “FT”, after his death Navalny is facing a “difficult question of how to transform a group of people dissatisfied with Putin’s power in the real opposition”. Oppositionist pointed out that the Germans acted as a switch – able to “connect all the opposition from liberals to the extreme left, but also be able to talk to people from the system, as the Communists, who did not agree with his views, but they were open to dialogue with him” .

So far, sanctions adopted by the US and EU to Russia included representatives from government officials, some of the oligarchs and the people directly involved in the annexation of the Crimea and the conflict in the Donbas. West also limited the Russian state-owned banks and the oil sector companies access to capital. On Wednesday, the United States inscribed on its “black list” more people, including Alexander Dugin, the ideologist restoration of the Russian Empire.

The 38-year-old Navalny – a lawyer, blogger and a fighter against corruption – is one of the leaders of the protests in Moscow in 2012 against Vladimir Putin’s return to the Kremlin. In September 2013 years Navalny took part in the elections the mayor of Moscow, second only to the current Mayor Sergei Sobianinowi.
