Only in 2014. In Syria killed more than 76 thousand. people – Television Republic

In the past year armed conflict in Syria has absorbed 76 021 victims, of which slightly less than half of them civilians – reports on the first day of the New Year, the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights, systematically monitoring the situation in the country.

The Observatory, established in the UK, but possessing an extensive network of informants in Syria, reports that in the aftermath of conflict in the country last year killed 33 278 civilians.

According to the UN since 2011, when anti-president protests in Syria turned into a civil war, killing a total of about 200 000 people.

On Thursday, Syrian television footage issued New Year’s meeting with Syrian President Bashar el-Assad with the soldiers on the outskirts of Damascus. Images, writes Reuters, accompanied by patriotic music. Assad is shown talking to the soldiers, embracing them and together with them consuming a meal, which was presented as raising the morale of the soldiers.

Assad, who is head of the armed forces, is rarely shown in public.

The conflict in Syria, which began in 2011, escalated into war; pro-government forces are fighting it with several rebel groups, including supported by the West, as well as associated with al-Qaeda al-Nusra Front and jihadists of the Islamic State (IS). These groups also are fighting each other.
