Is mobility, freedom and television really mutually exclusive? – Spider’s Web

I stand before selecting ISPs and television. I still have the choice of a few months, but now look through the market and prices. The more I read, the more confused I got. I know only one thing – the traditional TV is something so archaic that in today’s world it is difficult to agree on the form.

The first television broadcast took place 27 th January 1928

Since then, the world has changed dramatically. Changed the way content consumption, entertainment, and even communication. It would seem that everything is newer and better, but TV is extremely resistant to these changes. Somewhere along the way changed the analog signal to digital, and the image quality has improved, but did not change the foundation of the television. All the time is linear transmission, closed-rigid time frame.

 Old-TV

How is it possible that such a system can function in today’s world? In the age of the Internet, YouTube, social media and personalized advertising broadcasters should still depend on adapting to the viewer. Meanwhile, in the classical model is a television viewer has to adjust to events.

There is something incredibly archaic, which completely rejects me and many other young people

The viewer wants to find the same material to watch, and what’s more, he wants to decide when, where and on which device will watch it. This is confirmed by the report “M2, which is the power of mobility and multiscreeningu” prepared by Corporate Profiles Consulting on behalf of UPC Poland. The report’s authors checked the habits of Poles aged from 15 to 50 years.

In the age group 19-24 years, 76% of respondents said they want to be able to watch TV on your laptop, plus about half of the respondents want to be able to watch TV on mobile devices – 53% of people on smartphones, and 49% also on tablets.

 force-uvodzenia

Similar conclusions can be drawn from ARTMEDIA report entitled” The Power of uVODzenia “. The authors examined how Poles formula approach to video on demand (VOD). The report shows that nearly half of Polish Internet users watch online movies and TV series on demand. This indicator is constantly growing, and over the last year jumped by 6 percentage points. Moreover, one in five e-viewer uses the VOD services every day.

According to a study carried out by PBS Media, 65% of Poles want to be able to watch movies, series and when he wishes, regardless of TV schedule. Showtime studies show a steady decrease in the number of viewers watching live TV series, which is at issue in television. In 2006, the first season of “Dexter” live watched by 69% of the audience, and in 2009, when the fourth season, this value decreased to 53%. The trend continues. In 2009, the first season of “Homeland” 45% of viewers watched live, and the third season, in 2013, only 32%. Viewers watch episodes later the same day, or within a week – if you have the time.

These data show that there is an upgoing trend of personalization television. For the viewer, especially the young, what matters is the freedom and flexibility in the selection of content and at the time of issue.

Are these needs are met?

These trends certainly see both operators and broadcasters . Let’s see how they try to meet the expectations of modern audiences.

All the major television operators offer their viewers access to content on demand. Cyfrowy Polsat Ipla service develops and nc + is offering netVOD + service, which was transformed into nc + TV it. It is a service offering movies, series and TV shows available on request.

 UPC myprime

Ambition creation across digital platforms is the UPC Horizon. The company started from Horizon Go mobile application that allows watching TV on smartphones and tablets. In recent days, the UPC took off MyPrime service, which are offered movies and series, some for the first time in Poland legally available. The next step will be to create your own platform commercial launch soon a modern, multimedia set-top box that connects the TV to the Internet.

This is the most recent examples, because broadcasters, both public ones, as well as commercial, has long been systematically expand range of services available on request on the Internet. A good example is the TVN Group, which the Board launched in mid-2011 TVN Player Internet platform that gives you access to on demand movies, TV series and programs broadcasted n channel TVN Group. Since then, the platform has become increasingly popular and is constantly evolving. In February this year, the platform was renamed Player.pl, and in December, a new, paid part of the “Zone T-Mobile”, which gives access to live TV and much wider range of films and TV series, including foreign ones.

 1-hbo-go

Another example is HBO GO platform, or video on demand service launched in Poland in December 2010. Interestingly, Poland was the second country after the United States, in which HBO has launched such a service. Initially, the service gave access to the movies and series from HBO channels offer, and now there are also content with Cinemax.

Even public service broadcasters want to be available on the Internet. Polish Television has its VOD.tvp.pl service, which is also constantly evolving. The recently launched “Audience Zone” with premium materials for viewers who pay radio-television license.

We want to be modern, but it is in us a little of the traditionalists.

Today, each of us has a few larger or smaller screens at home. Television (often in several pieces), computer, laptop, smartphone, tablet … In any modern home is more screens than the household. Today’s customer expects also the freedom and flexibility in their choice of device on which you want to watch TV.

We touch upon an interesting issue, because the vast majority of VOD services is available from your computer (browser) and mobile devices (with application ). VOD services are presented as a modern and responsive to the viewer, but does that mean that the contemporary viewer must resign from the TV? Mobile devices are obviously comfortable on the road, but let’s not get crazy. At home, watching movies and series much better to check a large, kilkudziesięciocalowy screen.

 smart-tv

In this regard, broadcasters are facing a kind of trap. Their VOD services (such as, for example. Player.pl) can flourish on the Internet, but if you want to gain access to content on the TV (and now especially one that is not equipped with smart functions) may be a problem. Here are definitely more future offers operators such as those nc + and UPC.

When we decide to television operator, buy or get from the set-top box connected to the TV. Increasingly, it is a multimedia decoder that is connected to the Internet. This solution will turn even the simplest television in intelligent terminal with access to all web resources. Moreover, there is nothing in the way of our operator has also created applications that provide access to materials VOD also from mobile devices and computers.

This I expect from a modern TV operator, with which I want to tie up the contract. So it how I see the future of VOD market. I want to have access to the content not only on your computer, smartphone and tablet, but also (and primarily) on the TV. All of these devices must operate symbiosis. Only this will give freedom, which he wants to contemporary viewers.
