President Francois Hollande flew to Moscow, the first Western leader since the outbreak of the Ukrainian crisis, to meet with Vladimir Putin. – I decided that we should discuss the problems of Ukraine – said Hollande.
The meeting between the two leaders took place at Vnukovo airport, where the French president landed on the way back from Kazakhstan, where he was a two-day official visit.
– Mr. President, I have decided that we should discuss the problems associated with the Ukrainian crisis – Hollande addressed to the President of Russia. He added that he hopes to progress to end the conflict. Hollande also urged not to allow a situation in which both sides “would be separated by walls”. – You must be able to overcome both obstacles and seek solutions – he said.
Putin expressed his hope for “positive results” and progress after the talks. He admitted that “the issues are complex,” and thanked the French president as a “short working visit”.
In short speeches in the presence of journalists Hollande did not specify whether he brought to Moscow some new proposals for the end of fighting in the east of Ukraine.
On Friday, the French president called for in the capital of Kazakhstan, Astana, Putin, by looking into the future, and not focus on the past and to help reduce tension around Ukraine.
For a brief encounter Hollande ‘a and Putin took place shortly after the announcement by the Ukrainian president Petro Poroshenko that the new peace talks will be held on December 9 in Minsk. They participate in them separatist leaders in eastern Ukraine, as well as representatives of Ukraine, Russia and the OSCE.
Hollande the last time he met with Russian President in Brisbane in November at the G20 summit. Western leaders have threatened the imposition of further sanctions on Russia if it does not do more to end the Ukrainian conflict.
