Members of the parliamentary subcommittee on Thursday proposed the deletion of Polish Press Agency of the draft law on the national media. The application in this case notified the Commission Vice-President Culture and Communications Iwona Śledzińska-Katarasińska (PO).
Update 14:30
– There is no such justification specifically to connect these institutions radio and television and the Polish Press Agency – as deputy PO argued proposal for deletion of Article PAP. 2 of the bill. This article lists the institutions of national media, which are: “radio and television and the Polish Press Agency.”
– Please make a new law on the Polish Press Agency (…), so it’s as sticky as artificial mustache – explained Śledzińska-Katarasińska.
the functioning of the PAP is currently governed by a separate Act, 1997; The agency is not subject to the National Council for Radio and Television, as opposed to public television and radio.
Chairman of the Committee on Culture and Media Elżbieta Kruk (PiS) appealed to members of the subcommittee, asking if you declare opposition to the deletion of PAP Article. 2 of the draft media law. The opposition has not been reported.
As a result, the amendment of Article. 2 of the project will be changes in several other articles.
Deputy Minister of Culture and National Heritage Krzysztof Czabański estimated that the proposal subcommittee is justified, but – as noted – the deletion of PAP of the bill is ultimately not a foregone conclusion.
– I understand this proposal, because behind them argued that the European Commission could make us problems here in connection with the draft law, due to the fact that the Polish Press Agency is neither radio nor television. Therefore, maintaining it or subsidize the premium audiovisual may raise doubts about unauthorized public support for the Agency – told PAP Czabański.
– I think that or in the still of the bill – because it is only the work of the Subcommittee – go back to the concept of the three institutions of national media: radio, television and news agency, or we – if this decision will be upheld by parliament – to create for the Polish press Agency new financing system – he added. He stressed that “in fact, this is boils down to – to help financially PAP to be able to fulfill its role, because the Agency is required and the society and the state.”
– The fact that she must be stronger , there is no doubt – he stressed.
When asked which solution is in his opinion the better, he said, that “this should be carefully analyzed, which means eliminating now PAP of media law” and to consider further steps.
Subcommittee working on the so-called. large media law by PiS deputies. The package of projects envisaged, among others, transformation from July 1, PAP, TVP and PR in the national media institutions and the introduction of new audiovisual contributions in the amount of 15 zł per month charged with the bill for electricity.
