Parliament passed “bridging” media law and rejected … – Cable Republic

Parliament passed the so-called. bridging media law, which introduces a new institution – the National Media Council. It will appoint management and supervisory boards TVP, Polish Radio and Polish Press Agency. For the bill voted 227 deputies, against – 207, and one abstained.

The National Media Council has a count of five members, three of whom have relied Sejm, and two – the President. Their term of office will last six years.

At the same time Parliament rejected the report of the National Broadcasting Council on its activities in 2015. If the Senate would support the decision of the Parliament and also rejects the report, then the term of office of the members of the National Broadcasting Council will expire unless this decision support the president. This solution voted 229 deputies, against – 184, 22 abstained.

A small media law

In December, parliament passed the so-called. small media law, whose provisions apply only to 30 June. The law assumed, among others, that the new management and supervisory boards of public media shall appoint and dismiss “the minister responsible for the Treasury.” Terrain branches of Polish Television will instead direct the directors elected by its board. Boards of directors will consist of three members.

the law implied a shortening of the term of current boards of TVP and Polish Radio, whose mandate expired at the date of entry into force of the amendment.
