unofficially informed Polish Radio today’s deadline publication of the opinion of the European Commission is not a foregone conclusion. European Commission spokesman Margaritis Schinas stated that “the Venice Commission is still leading a constructive dialogue with the Polish government.”
According to earlier information, European Commission Vice President Frans Timmermans accept the opinion today summarizing the 4-month-old dialogue of the Commission with the Polish authorities in connection with the crisis around the Constitutional Court. As is already known, the opinion is to be critical of the Polish.
Last Wednesday, commissioners authorized the Vice-President Timmermans to the adoption of the opinion. It was decided, however, of giving Poland the time a significant change in the situation around the Constitutional Court until May 23. If the Commission does not perceive progress in resolving the crisis, the Commission Vice-President Frans Timmermans will issue a final opinion, which will begin action to the second phase of the procedure the rule of law.
