European Commission Vice President Frans Timmermans will adopt an opinion today summarizing the 4-month-old dialogue of the Commission with the Polish authorities in connection with the crisis around the Constitutional Court. As is already known, the opinion is to be critical of the Polish.
Scheduled for today is the aftermath of review initiated in January of procedures for the protection of law against the Polish in connection with the crisis around the Constitutional Court. Since January last Timmermans dialogue with the Polish authorities, the aim of which was to gather as much information on the state of the rule of law in Poland.
As early as last Wednesday authorized the Vice-President Timmermans Commissioners for adoption of the opinion. It was decided, however, of giving Poland the time a significant change in the situation around the Constitutional Court until May 23. If the Commission does not perceive progress in resolving the crisis, the Commission Vice-President Frans Timmermans will issue a final opinion, which will begin action to the second phase of the procedure the rule of law.
The response from the government Beaty Awl was clear: keeping the Monday deadline is unrealistic. On the initiative of deputies of Law and Justice, Parliament adopted a resolution on Friday calling on the Polish government to oppose the action against the sovereignty, to defend the national interest and constitutional order in the Republic of Poland. READ MORE
