He’s dead Samuel Willenberg. President Duda: In honor of his memory – Cable Republic

In Israel, died Samuel Willenberg, the last survivor of the prisoner camp in Treblinka, Warsaw Uprising, an artist. He was 93 years.

Samuel Willenberg was born in 1923. Professor in the family. Perec Willenberg and Maniefy Popov, Russian Orthodox, who converted to Judaism. Willenbergowie lived in Czestochowa, in the late 30s, the family moved to Warsaw.

After the outbreak of war as a 16-year-old volunteered for the Polish army. In October of 1942. He was sent to the Treblinka extermination camp, where he was assigned to the Sonderkommando – the special branch of prisoners forced by the Germans to support the camp. Willenberg he worked in the warehouse of things belonging to the murdered Jews.

2 August 1943. took part in the rebellion Treblinka and with approx. 200 inmates escaped from the camp. Then he went to Warsaw, where the uprising fought in the ranks of the Army and the People’s Army. In 1950. He emigrated to Israel. Retired took up fine arts, created, among others, a series of sculptures depicting scenes from the operation of the camp, and the uprising in Treblinka.

Today on Twitter tribute to the deceased gave President Andrzej Duda. “Honor his memory!” he wrote.
