Komorowski at Westerplatte spoke of “Nazi aggression” – Television Republic

– At this point, so I would like to pay tribute to those who fought against Nazi aggression, all the anti-Hitler coalition soldiers who have contributed to the victory in May 1945 – President Komorowski said during the ceremony at Westerplatte.

The ceremony at Westerplatte began before midnight. As stated by President Komorowski during a speech at Westerplatte on 1 September 1939 cannon salvos of the battleship “Schleswig-Holstein” heralding the beginning of the Second World War. He added that preceded the outbreak of war and allowed the cooperation of two totalitarian regimes: Nazi and Stalinist.

– The symbol of this cooperation is the agreement of August 1939, in Poland known as the Molotov-Ribbentrop agreement, in the world known as the Hitler-Stalin agreement . Here at Westerplatte, a Polish soldier began to fight you hand in hand with Allied allies rolled into the end of the war in the West, the East and Africa from 1939 to May 1945 – said the president.

– At this point I would like so to pay tribute to those who fought against Nazi aggression, all the anti-Hitler coalition soldiers who have contributed to the victory in May 1945. I also wish to honor the memory of all the victims of this terrible war, no matter which side of the barricades war died – said Komorowski.

The celebration was attended by, among others, Presidents of Bulgaria, Croatia, Cyprus, Czech Republic, Estonia, Lithuania, Romania and Ukraine, Prime Minister of Slovakia, as well as UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon and the head of the European Council, Donald Tusk.
