The President of Ukraine Petro Poroshenko believes that the active phase of the war on the Ukrainian East has already passed, and his plan for a peaceful solution to the conflict with terrorists acts and brings results.
– For making up the road on which the Western countries went through the centuries, Ukraine has only a few years – said the president at a specially convened press conference in Kiev.
Poroshenko stressed that his country needs reforms in 2020 to apply for membership in the European Union. But the main task – as noted – is the modernization of Ukraine and meet the expectations of its citizens.
– An alternative to transformation is one. Without reforms, we have only one way – to Russia – he warned.
Head of State explained that as part of its strategy until 2020, Ukraine should implement anti-corruption reform, judiciary, tax, defense and internal affairs, decentralize authority and to simplify business conditions.
Poroshenko expressed the hope that it will support the transformation of the new parliament, which will be a showdown to determine in previous elections at the end of October. He declared at the same time, it is expected that the present Supreme Council until the end of his term of office will be able to adopt a law on the establishment of anti-corruption body in Ukraine.
The president also rated the active phase of the war on the Ukrainian East has already passed, and his plan for peace solution to the conflict with the separatists working and delivering.
– I have no doubt that the most dangerous phase of the war is behind us. We owe it to the heroism of Ukrainian troops – he said.
Poroshenko denied media information at the same time that the President of Russia Vladimir Putin had him threaten to limit Moscow Ukraine access to important Russian market, if Kiev implement any part of the trade agreement with the European Union .
– I fear nothing and never afraid. Adds additional force to me that I represent a huge state with a very strong nation. I can not imagine that anyone threatened me. Could they be trying to pressure? Are possible, but do not bring any results. Ukraine will be guided solely by their own interests. It was done by signing and ratifying an association agreement with the EU – he said.
Poroshenko also announced that within three weeks to meet with Russian President Vladimir Putin. Reported that the talks to take place in one of the countries of the European Union.
– I think that in three weeks come to my meeting with Vladimir Vladimirovich (Putin). This meeting will take place in a multilateral format, similar to a meeting in Normandy. It is possible that there are also bilateral consultations. The talks will be held in Europe (EU). There are already preliminary findings of the case – said.
The president also warned that Ukraine is able to provide “fast and decent” response if Moscow decides to introduce economic sanctions against Kiev.
– I want to ensure that if the Russians decide to unilateral sanctions against Ukraine, the reaction of the Ukrainian side will be quick and efficient – he said.
Poroshenko stressed that Russia should agree on possible sanctions with its partners Belarus and Kazakhstan.
– After that, when Kazakhstan and Belarus joined the Customs Union (Russia), issues of application of sanctions by the Russian Federation should be governed by the Commission Eurasian, which Russia gave part of their competence – said Ukrainian president.
