We left with a simple assumption that the standard CI is simply the same standard as Wi-Fi or Bluetooth. Or something like this works or not. For testing we used an advanced TV Panasonic Viera WT50.

Construction and installation
CI card is a small device, not much bigger than a credit card, of a thickness not exceeding 0.5 cm. To install the card in the first place the TV in the “tab key” UPC, then the whole put into the CI slot of the TV. When you turn on the TV automatically detects the new device and install it. Here we encountered a small problem, because the card would not work with the TV until ordered to program your TV channels available on cable TV tuner. This simple act has made the card is installed correctly in a few seconds. Installing the card is simple and does not require any technical knowledge to us. It can handle absolutely everyone.

The biggest advantage of using a CI card instead of the decoder is to reduce the amount of equipment needed to watch TV, to reduce the number of pilots, and above all, comfortable service. For me, it was always annoying that one turn on the TV remote control and changing channels other. CI card allows all operations performed using a single remote control that controls the TV that day. The second advantage is the possibility of any card sorting and routing channels. In the decoder, UPC we are stuck with a system of channels, which invented the company. The CI card can sort the channels independently, as they so wish. Test TV also gave us the opportunity to completely hide channels you do not watch – very comfortable.
modern TVs can connect them to the memory card, memory stick or hard disk recorders become full. So it was, and in our case. With the CI card (and the connected disk) we obtain the same functionality that offer a mediabox decoders. We can program recordings, watch previously recorded programs, but also scroll through live TV.
There is also an electronic program guide, their descriptions, and of course full TV program. In practice, therefore, that the CI card with UPC has almost the same functionality as the decoder mediabox.
There is no rose without a thorn
deciding to CI card must come to terms with the loss of functionality. When using this approach we lose the ability to use VOD services, bill view or broadcast messages to subscribers. We will also have access to channels such as “film zone” where the thumbnails are displayed in nine other channels. There will be also possible to order additional services from the TV menu and will have to be done over the Internet or by telephone.
In use we found a single error. We used a combination TV + home theater sound reproduction. Cinema is connected to a TV via an HDMI cable with ARC function – Audio Return Channel. With this configuration, we could not hear the sound from the speakers home theater with some HD channels. The sound of TV speakers, however, was aired properly. But we are not sure whether to blame the TV software or the card.
Summary
CI card with UPC is a great choice for anyone who wants to reduce the number of pilots and devices in your home. Its functionality is close to the decoder, and when you connect a hard drive or USB flash drive our TV becomes a digital recorder. The only drawback is the loss of access to VOD services PRZE served UPC, but if someone has a television with rich services Smart TV is not a problem.
