TV is bad for sleep small children – Science in Poland (PAP)

survey of more than 1,800 children aged 6 months to 8 years showed a link between frequent watching TV and marked reduction in sleep time. The results of the study by Harvard University researchers tells the latest issue of the journal “Pediatrics”.

group of researchers from the Harvard School of Public Health and MassGeneral Hospital for Children in Boston conducted an experiment whose objective was to analyze the long-term (several years) the impact of several different factors on the health and development of young children. One such factor was the TV.

1800 mother asked children to identify how much time their children spent a day watching television. Initially – in the first year of life of children – women give out their residence time in the room where the TV was turned on, and then – once a year for seven years – the number of hours (or minutes) spent on active watching TV. They also asked about whether children aged 4-7 years old sleeping in the room where permanently installed TV. Every time his mother also determined the average daily amount of sleep your child.

We found that each additional hour of television viewing was associated with shorter daily sleep time of 7 minutes, and the effect was more pronounced in boys than in the girls. What’s more, it was noted that children sleeping in rooms where there is a television, the sleep time is reduced by an average of half an hour a day.

study authors emphasize that the results confirm previous research reports, stating the fact that both the same watch TV and have a TV in the bedroom, resulting in shorter total sleep time, which could have a negative impact on mental and physical health of children.
